Sisyphus Industries at Fred Segal Home
A steel ball, a field of sand and art that never stands still.
About Sisyphus Industries
Sisyphus turns a simple, hypnotic gesture—the movement of a steel ball through sand—into kinetic art. Artist Bruce Shapiro created a hidden, Wi-Fi-connected robot that guides the ball magnetically beneath a tempered glass surface, drawing intricate patterns that continuously appear and disappear.
The pieces sit somewhere between sculpture, technology and functional furniture. Each is assembled by hand in Minneapolis, and the Sisyphus app offers thousands of sand patterns along with lighting controls and personalized settings.
